The latest version Firefox 4 beta 4 includes support for Direct2D acceleration on Windows platforms. Just like the way Microsoft is planning to introduce in their upcoming Internet explorer 9 release this particular Firefox beta includes the code for 2D graphics acceleration on Windows platform.
What is basically does is it removes the burden of rendering graphics from the CPU and computes itself thus improving graphics. But being a beta release they din’t enable that feature by default.
How to enable Direct2D in Firefox 4 Beta 4 :
1) Type about:config in address bar.
2) Search for mozilla.widget.render-mode and set its value to 6.
3) Now search for gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled and set it to true.
Once that’s done, just restart Firefox and go to about:support, and if Direct2D is enabled you should see a message right at the bottom of the page.
