Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Ported to x86 Machines

As promised by the Android dev team, Ice Cream Sandwich has been successfully ported to x86 platform now. That means you can run the latest Android 4.0 ICS flavor on your laptops or small screen netbooks powered by AMD and Intel processors. Though the ICS source code for x86 platform is available for download, right now it has been tested to successfully work only with AMD chipsets. The features including WiFi, Multi-touch and OpenGL ES hardware acceleration works on devices sporting AMD Radeon chipset. The developers also went ahead to list the features that is not working on Intel platform which includes Sound, Camera, Ethernet and Hardware acceleration.

It is to be noted that this release is not a stable one and is intended for developers out there waiting to get their hands on. But work is on and you can expect RC in coming months. Head over to the Android x86 project download and grab the .ISO specially cooked for MSI’s AMD powered Brazos Tablet. This page will be updated once when we more info about other tablet or netbooks support including the ones powered by Intel chips. Stay tuned.
