How to Install Firefox 4 in Fedora 14 & RHEL

The latest and final stable version of the popular browser Firefox is finally in store. Firefox 4 for Linux introduces many cool features with improvements in UI and security. If you want to update Firefox running on Fedora 14 (Laughlin), Fedora 15 (Lovelock), CentOS or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) download the offline installer file or run the update via command line to enable Remi repository.

Updating to Firefox 4 don’t remove your old bookmarks or browsing history from previous Firefox versions including Firefox 3.6. As always you can either install Firefox 4 using offline tar.bz2 file or install via command line.For updating via command line you need to enable Remi repository.

Installing Firefox v4.x in Fedora, CentOS & RHEL using tar.bz2 file :

1. Download firefox-4.0.tar.bz2 from here. Save it in /tmp directory.

2. To install Firefox 4 in directory /opt punch in the following command as the root user,

$ su -

Installing Firefox v4.x in Fedora, CentOS & RHEL via Command Line :

Here you have to enable remi repo and update Firefox using yum. For that run terminal, then type,

yum --enablerepo=remi update firefox

Run Firefox 4 via Command line :

After closing the old Firefox version instances run the following command,

$ /opt/firefox/firefox &
