Apple Inc. announced the next iteration of their mobile operating system, iOS 6 with many new features. With the introduction of iOS 6 Apple is ditching Google Maps in favor of their own mapping solution powered by TomTom. This along with deep Facebook integration and hundreds of UI changes, Apple is gearing up to take on the mobile OS market this fall. That said, among the many useful changes introduced in iOS 6 there is this hidden feature that lets users take iPhone screenshots via software. Till date it was only possible to capture screens by hitting the home and power button. Or it required a jailbroken iOS device to control and take screenshots using  tweaks or apps. The AssistiveTouch feature in iOS 6 enables soft iPhone screenshots.

AssistiveTouch is a feature introduced in iOS 5 that allowed iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad users with disabilities or having difficulty touching the screen to easily navigate and perform various actions without pressing the physical Home button. This feature also allowed custom gestures with which users can set predefined gestural actions. Now with iOS 6 users can also take screenshots via AssistiveTouch. To quickly grab screen head over to Settings->General->Accessibility. Under ‘Physical & Motor’ you will find the ‘AssistiveTouch’ menu. Enable it by switching on and you will find a new floating on-screen palette having four shortcuts namely Favorites, Gestures, Device and Home.

How to Take Screenshots on iPhone 6: When you tap on the floating on-screen palette and then the ‘Favorites’ button you will have the ‘Screenshot’ shortcut which when pressed trigger the same function what Home+ Power button did otherwise. The software way of taking iPhone screenshots or iPad is intuitive as all you have to do is tap with a single finger or even with a stylus you’re holding.
